The goal of physical therapy is to transform society by optimizing movement to improve the human experience. In layman’s terms, we seek to change your life by decreasing your pain, increasing your strength and mobility, and increasing your performance in daily activities. Whether your goal is to recover after surgery, get out on the golf course, or carry your grandkids, physical therapy is an effective tool in helping you to BE ACTIVE once again.
Prehabilitation or “prehab” is when a patient seeks physical therapy prior to orthopedic surgery. This approach improves the odds of a successful surgical outcome by increasing your strength, knowledge, and confidence regarding how to move your body and engage specific muscles. We’ll also review important post-surgical needs with you, such as assistive devices, home modifications, and the level of assistance you can expect to need from family/friends. You’ve likely been hurting long enough, so we want to help you to GET ACTIVE as soon as possible!
Schedule a prehab visit with us in order to be best prepared for your upcoming orthopedic surgery:
– Total Knee Replacement
– Total Hip Replacement
– Rotator Cuff Repair
– Reverse Total Shoulder Replacement
– Spinal Fusion
– and much more!
The comprehensive Balance Assessment offered by Active Recovery is intended to highlight areas of opportunity for you to increase your balance and safety in a variety of environments. There are many variables that influence your steadiness, such as surface, barriers, lighting, and even physical changes, such as vision, sensation, and strength. By understanding where your deficits are, you can work to limit your risk of falling in order to maintain your independence and overall quality of life.
The comprehensive Movement Assessment offered by Active Recovery is intended to highlight areas of opportunity for you to increase your quality of movement and movement patterning. Research suggests the best time to prevent injury is BEFORE it happens when you are in the “dysfunctional, non-painful” phase. After all, it’s repeated motion in “poor” patterns that are most likely to lead to compensation and tissue breakdown. By understanding where your deficits are, correcting movement patterns, and increasing strength and motor control in those patterns, you can work to prevent or reduce the severity of the injury.
Not quite sure where you belong? Definitely not ER-worthy and not serious enough to push you to Physical Therapy? Schedule (or stop in) for an injury screen. Sometimes just a small change in movement or activity or the right exercise prescription early on can prevent progression to a more debilitating injury in the future.
Active Recovery provides athletic training services to our local high school in East Jordan. In addition to traditional on-the-field game coverage, we provide preventative movement assessments, pre-season concussion baseline testing, as well as follow-up injury care to help you return to sport as safely and quickly as possible. WE ARE EJ!
Returning to sports following an injury can be tough. Here at Active Recovery, we understand the challenges are more than just physical and that there is a lot of emotion and anticipation tied into the first time you step back on the field. Sports Rehab is a more specialized, high-level phase of training where we move beyond traditional strengthening and start moving in sport-specific patterns, such as jumping, cutting, running, or throwing. Part of our goal is to provide you with the education, tools, and CONFIDENCE you’ll need to get you back and functioning at your highest level.
